Hydrangeas are popular flowers for weddings and they are available in white, pink and blue varieties. In some species the color is dependent on the type of soil that they are grown in - an acidic soil produces blue flowers, whereas a more alkaline soil leads to pink flowers.
Ideas for Hydrangea Wedding Centerpieces
They are distinguishable by their large flowerheads. You could create a hydrangea wedding centerpiece simply by using one flowerhead in a small vase. Decorate the outside of the vase with a decorative ribbon and place colored pebbles in the base of the vase. On closer inspection you will see that the flowerhead is in fact comprised of many individual flowers. You can scatter the individual flowerheads on the table instead of rose petals.
Another simple idea for a hydrangea table centerpiece is to obtain a goldfish bowl (globe vase) and fill the base with decorative glass beads or stones up to the height of about 1 inch. Fill with water up to the height of the stones. Then cut the hydrangea flowerhead short and place it on the stones. The stem should be in the water but the flowers resting on the stones.
If you like candle centerpieces you could place a central candle on a dish or mirror and surround it by 3 hydrangeas at its base. This is a simple but effective display.
Availability of Hydrangeas
Hydrangeas are available from late spring through summer to autumn. You can combine them with other seasonal flowers in a mixed arrangement. Because of their size it is sometimes difficult to ensure other flowers that are not overwhelmed by the presence of hydrangeas.
By using some of these ideas you can create hydrangea wedding centerpieces that are simple to make and will look absolutely stunning.
