Using Floral Foam
You can buy an Oasis floral foam posy pad that you can then put your flowers into. You need to cut your flower stems quite short to about 2-3 inches before pressing them into the wet foam. Flowers such as chrysanthemums, roses, carnations and gerberas will work well in this type of arrangement.
Leave room in the center for you to push your candle into. To make sure that the candle is sitting firmly, you can buy special oasis candleholders. These neatly push into the foam and will make sure that the candle doe not topple over.
Making a Floral Candle Centerpiece using a Ring
An alternative way to decorate around a candle is to buy an oasis foam ring (wreath). You can decorate the oasis foam in a similar way and then place the candle in the center. You can buy oasis florist foam by going to a craft shop or by buying from suppliers on eBay.
Using Artificial Flowers
You may prefer to use the convenience of silk or artificial flowers in your decorations. You can follow the same procedure as using real floral decorations, you will just need to use the type of oasis foam that is suitable for use with artificial or dried flowers.
Remember to keep the candle flame well away from the artificial flower material. If you are at all concerned, then a hurricane lantern around the candle will be both decorative and will also ensure that there is no problem with a fire risk.
