Carnation Wedding Centerpieces

Here’s how you can save money on your wedding decorations by using carnation wedding centerpieces. This flower has long been associated with weddings. And compared to many other flowers, they are quite inexpensive.

The carnations in the centerpiece above have been simply arranged to form a nice table decoration. White and green are two popular colors but there are literally hundreds of different varieties and colors available to choose from.

Carnations have traditionally been used as a flower for buttonholes and wedding boutonnieres. But they are more versatile than that. They look good ‘en masse’ as in the centrepiece above but they can also be mixed with other flowers. In fact they work well as a secondary flower in arrangements consisting of roses, orchids and other exotic blooms.

Types of Carnations

You should be aware of the different types of carnations, if you want to use them yourself. Florists divide them into ‘bloom’ and ‘spray’ carnations. Bloom carnations have a single large flower head on each stem. Spray carnations have a larger number of small flowerheads on every stem. The latter are often cheaper and used as a ‘filler’ flower.

Carnations are available the whole year round so there are no issues with availability. As well as making carnation wedding centerpieces, you can also use this flower in pedestal stands and your wedding bouquet.
